What’s on July

February 28, 2017

July’s a great time to be visiting Lanzarote – but it’s not just the sun that is shining this month as the island is also playing host to a dazzling selection of events that should feature high on your agenda if you’ve booked one of our villas in Playa Blanca over the coming weeks.

JAMEOS MUSIC FESTIVAL – JULY 15TH
If you’ve previously visited the Jameos del Agua by day and found it atmopsheric then that’s not a touch on how amazing this undegroud venue appears at night when lit up by one of the Jameos Music Festival events.

This year’s programme features four key dates across the summer months and on July 15th the season is kicked off by an appearance from leading American DJ Kevin Yost, who boasts a jazzy house style that has won him much acclaim on dancefloors around the world.

He will be ably supported by local Canarian favourites Delafunk as well as Madrid based but Argentinian born JL Magoya. The action runs from 21.00 until 04.00, tickets are priced at 26 euros and can be purchased online.

YORIELL CARMONA – JULY 21st
The Castillo de Santa Jose, home to the island’s Museum of International and Contemporary Art hosts a special one off concert on Juyl 21st, featuring the young Cuban composer and guitarist Yoriell Carmona.

He’ll be showcasing his salsa infused and highly danceable new disc Fortuna along with some special guests from 21.00. Admission costs 10 euros.

JAZZ CANARIAS – JULY 23rd
If jazz is more your bag then head for the 25th anniversary edition of the Jazz Canarias Festival, sponsored by Heineken.

This year’s festival features 27 concerts staged across five islands and the Lanzarote leg is headlined by José James, whose smooth soul and hip hop tinged style is reminiscent of the work of artists such as D’Angelo.

James will be supported by the blues guitarist Carolyn Wonderland and the event is being staged at the Plaza de Almacen in the island capital of Arrecife starting at 21.00. Admission is free of charge.
