Reef Brief

January 10, 2017

The much awaited opening of the Atlantic Museum off the coast of Playa Blanca next year is sure to provide a major boost to the resort and will provide visitors with a great new atttraction to explore. As the life like, submerged sculptures of the Museum’s creator Jason deCaires Taylor will provide an amazing under sea environment for snorkellers and divers.

The Musuem is scheduled to open in early January 2017 but tourists can get an advance preview of this new attraction by visiting the Museum of International and Contemporary Art in Arrecife. Where a new exhibition focusing on the Musuem’s marketing and branding is taking place as part of an inclusive tender process being organised by the Minister of Tourism. Who is keen to invite the opinions of both locals and tourists on the 15 different final nominations, which have been whittled down from 76 entries.

The overall winner will walk off with a cheque for 5,000 euros and you can also assess the finalists on social media by using the the hashtag #cactlanzarote, or @cactlanzarote.

The significance of the Atlantic Museum project is considerable, as it is the first major new attraction to open on the island since the death of Cesar Manrique back in the 1990’s. Yet also works in harmony with his philosophy of fusing art with nature, creating the perfect match for Lanzarote. Whilst also carrying a powerful ecological message, highlighting the negative impact of climate change on many existing coral reefs around the world.
